Responsible Gambling

Betting should be entertainment, never a way to make money or solve financial problems. BetMzansi is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. If you choose to bet, please do it within your means, and treat any money you stake as the cost of entertainment - money you are prepared to lose, not money you are relying on getting back.

Know the signs of a gambling problem
Gambling has become a problem when it stops being fun and starts affecting the rest of your life. Common warning signs include:
- Betting more money or more often than you planned
- Chasing losses - increasing your stakes to try to win back what you lost
- Borrowing money, selling possessions or missing bills to gamble
- Lying to family or friends about how much you bet
- Feeling anxious, irritable or guilty about your betting
- Betting affecting your work, studies, sleep or relationships
- Being unable to stop or cut back even when you want to
A quick self-check
Ask yourself honestly: Do you bet to escape stress or low mood? Have you ever felt you should cut down but could not? Do you bet with money meant for essentials? If you answered yes to any of these, it is worth talking to the NRGP - reaching out early makes a real difference.
How to stay in control
- Set a budget before you play and never exceed it
- Use the deposit, loss and time limits your bookmaker offers - every licensed SA operator provides them
- Never chase losses; accept that losing is part of gambling
- Never bet money meant for rent, food, school fees or bills
- Take regular breaks, and do not bet when you are upset, bored or under the influence
- Balance betting with other activities you enjoy
Self-exclusion
If you need to stop, self-exclusion blocks you from betting with an operator for a period you choose. Every licensed South African bookmaker must offer it - look in your account settings under responsible gambling, or contact the operator's support team. You can also ask the NRGP about excluding yourself across venues.
Protecting minors
Betting is strictly for over-18s. If children share your device, use device-level parental controls and never let anyone under 18 access a betting account. BetMzansi does not target or market to minors.
18+. Gambling is addictive. Play responsibly.
